The PHS Assistant Instructor position will directly support the Workforce Development Team and the Branching Up training program, which is a partnership with PHS and Temple University. This role will require up to 40 hours each week, in-person, at the George Hill Correctional Facility. The Development Officer is responsible for developing long-term philanthropic relationships and provides support for the administration of the 1827 and Legacy Societies. In collaboration with the Associate Director of Leadership and Planned Giving and colleagues across the organization, the Development Officer will personally qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors making primarily unrestricted gifts in support of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s mission. This front-facing role will require ongoing outreach to meet with members and donors through in-person visits, virtual meetings, and events. They will also support the solicitation and stewardship efforts across the Individual Giving Team.
The Philly Tree Coalition (PTC) is a newly formalized organization tasked with stewarding the implementation of the Philly Tree Plan , the city’s first comprehensive strategic plan to restore and protect the urban forest, released in 2023. Housed within the nonprofit, The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS), the PTC is guided by and accountable to a steering committee of partners that includes, but is not limited to, PHS, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation (PPR) and other city agencies, Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC), the School District of Philadelphia, Fairmount Park Conservancy, Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia, and PowerCorpsPHL.
The Public Gardens and Landscapes Team is looking for full-time seasonal Landscape Technicians to work with our gardening team providing quality horticultural care and maintenance across a variety of garden sites in Philadelphia. Technicians will work as part of a core team performing all aspects of gardening and horticulture at some of the most prominent and visible gardens in the city, such as The Philadelphia Navy Yard, Logan Square, Rodin Museum, Philadelphia Art Museum, Eastern State Penitentiary, and The Delaware River Waterfront. A Landscape Technician will perform general grounds and landscape maintenance duties along with garden installation and renovation/maintenance type work in support of the Public Gardens and Landscapes team.
The Deputy Director will work closely with the Executive Director and the other members of NGT’s small but mighty team to advance the expansion of our network of preserved, vibrant community gardens and green spaces across Philadelphia. The Deputy Director will be responsible for advancing NGT’s land preservation and garden stewardship work, which requires an internal focus on managing strategic growth and day-to-day hands-on execution, as well as external stakeholder collaboration and engagement. This position reports to NGT’s Executive Director and will supervise NGT’s Stewardship Manager and Land Preservation Specialist, to be hired in 2025.
The Trees Outreach & Engagement Specialist will play a vital role in advancing the organization’s mission to expand urban tree canopies and foster environmental stewardship supporting the Education and Outreach Manager. This position focuses on engaging communities, building partnerships, and coordinating efforts to promote tree planting, care, and education. The ideal candidate is passionate about urban forestry, possesses excellent communication skills, and thrives in a collaborative, community-focused environment.
Senior Restricted Funding Receivables Analyst will be an integral member of the Financial Planning & Analysis Team. Primary responsibilities for this role with be to manage the entirety of PHS’s Restricted Funding Accounts Receivable process including preparing complete and accurate invoices for all externally funded restricted projects, tracking and monitoring restricted funding accounts receivable balances to provide internal reporting on outstanding receivables, and investigating reasons for delinquencies by contacting clients with past due accounts. Complementing responsibilities include the tracking and posting of project expenses and preparing and posting journal entries, supporting year-end audit requests for supporting information and reconciling items associated with restricted funding receivables.
The Trees Team Field Specialist is responsible for the planting and stewardship activities across PHS service territory with a focus on priority neighborhoods; ensure newly planted trees by PHS and partner orgs are properly cared for during establishment period; work with community groups and individuals in priority neighborhoods to carry out tree care activities, including watering, weeding, mulching, and pruning. The field specialist is also responsible for assisting the Field Operations Manager with pit cut marking, field surveys and data collection and administrative needs as necessary.
